In this week's playlist, I've gone through the last few request sheets to pick out some of my personal favorites. The brides and grooms were ranging from late 20's to late 30's and lovers of indie music. While Ballroom Blitz prides itself on being able to play for almost anyone, we do love when we get a room full of indie music fans and can venture off the beaten path for a bit.
In this week's playlist series we take a look at some of our favorite secret (and not so secret) weapons when it comes to new/future soul, r&b, and funk. These are tracks we use when moving between classic and modern styles, bridging the gap between various generations in a crowd.
We've known Jess and Rene for a long time. Rene has DJ'd with us at some of our favorite nights and places for a decade and we've been dancing next to Jess for just as long. When they chose to celebrate their marriage with a dance party at Highland Ballroom, where their relationship started years ago, we were eager to jump in and help make it happen. We brought out sound, set up up lighting to match their color palette, played music side by side with Rene, and danced all night long. Dave from No Payne Media was also on hand to shoot and edit video for the recap. Congratulations Jess + Rene!
